I gave 5 5, It s an amazing book that shows what love really means. The plot is amazing, when I saw it on , I freaked out, I absolutely bought it.I loved every single chapter of the book, the fact that she knew what was happening even if she was in a coma , was amazing. And the most important thing i liked was the friendship I saw her friends being preoccuped , hurted for her, but now they are her family, that s all that she has Unfortunately the last book ruins this beautiful romance But this book is amazing , BUY IT.

Gold Star Award Winner Mia has a lot to love in life She is a cellist who could be on her way to Julliard She has a wonderful, loving, and supportive family And she has a boyfriend who is perfect But as wonderful as Mia s life is, she has choices to make Should she go to Julliard and leave everyone behind When a terrible accident occurs, Mia suddenly finds herself with only one choice left should she stay This book is just WOW Do not read this in public because this one will bring tears to your eyes I m warning you That doesn t mean it doesn t have humor though, because there were many times I found myself laughing out loud This is an intense story that will not only appeal to teens, but have a lot of crossover adult appeal, as well.Gayle Forman does an excellent job going from Mia s present to Mia s past and drawing the reader in so they truly understand her love for the cello, her family, and Adam, her boyfriend As I was reading, I felt like I really got to know Mia and her family and found myself grieving along with Mia the writing is just that powerful.IF I STAY is a short read, but it packs so much in and I wanted to savor every moment At times I found myself reading slower and drinking in the words because I didn t want the story to end.The story centers around music Mia with her cello, Adam with his band, and Mia s dad being a drummer, and Gayle Forman s writing felt lyrical She was able to capture music and put it into a book I don t know how to describe it, but it was like I was reading a song hopefully that makes sense Music is such an important part of the book, Gayle Forman has included a playlist for the book on her website I loved checking out the songs that went along with the story and listening to them when Mia did.IF I STAY is a must read The themes of love, loss, grief, and hope are so powerful and beautifully written that this story will stay with you long after you finish the last page.Reviewed by Sarah Bean the Green Bean Teen Queen

If I Stay follows the life changing 24 hours after Mia and her family get into a devastating car accident Her parents died at the scene and her little brother Teddy is in critical condition and Mia is floating somewhere inbetween life and death unable to feel anything but can see everything including her own body on the operating table As Mia flashes back through her life the good, the bad and everything inbetween she has to make the most important decision of all To stay or not.Chances are you ve either read the book, seen the film or both but as always, I m 200 years late to the party and only just got around to reading it and truthfully, I wasn t as blown away as I was expecting to be considering all the brilliant reviews I ve read about this book The storyline was right up my street I loved the idea and concept of this teenage girl going through the most traumatic experience then having to make the most unspeakably courageous decision but I felt there could have been substance and unfortunately, felt like it fell a bit flat.I loved the parts of the story in which Mia was describing what it was like being in the hospital, seeing her own body and her relatives however the flashbacks I did struggle with Mia is an avid cello player and adores classical music and I erm, well don t Absolutely no offence to anyone who does, but having to read about something which doesn t interest you at all can get a bit tedious This unfortunately led me to not feeling connected with the characters as much as I should have and although they were all well developed I found myself not caring that much.Despite all that though, I can completely see why this book is so popular It was exceptionally easy to read and I managed to read over 3 4 of it in a day However, I think my expectations were probably too high which led me to feel a bit deflated by the whole thing by the end I m a huge YA fan but I don t think If I Stay was for me.

Read the full review at I Stay is a gorgeous book that deals with death, family, love, and grief so as you can tell it is quite a complex novel that deals with complex issues that all happen between a really short time period There are a lot of things that really move me about this story I didn t know what was coming next and it kept me on the edge of my toes the entire way through. The story in this novel is utterly heartrendingly beautiful The way it is told as well is quite unique, I certainly haven t read anything where it skips from present time to random but relevant flashbacks as you read about the characters Yet even with the flashbacks the pace and the flow of the book was never interrupted, never slow and plodding along through the story. And if for any reason you did not particularly like the story there is not a shadow of a doubt that you won t love the characters The family dynamic in the book is amazingly sweet and adoring The romantic relationship is so strong and loving that even though you don t get to be there at the beginning of it I got a real feel of how caring and in love they were and felt for each other But another loving part is the friendships and how real they sounded It was beautiful. All in all there is not a thing that I found wrong or did not like about this book Everything about it was heart breakingly and breathlessly beautiful I could not put it down and I can not wait to read the sequel and find out if love really is strong enough to survive their grief and troubles It was a touchingly gorgeous read that had me switching from crying rivers to cheshire cat smiling throughout.

The last time I read a book at the end of a 24 hour read a thon it was a fun read but nothing mind blowing And when I m getting to the stage of needing to prop my eyes open with toothpicks, I choose books that I think will be a quick, easy read Although If I Stay was a quick read, it wasn t necessarily an easy one.If I Stay is a book that seemed simple when I read the synopsis but within the first few pages I realised that this would be a book that I loved Mia s family are simply fantastic, and I loved that she wanted to be with them as much as possible Their banter, their personalities and their bond as a family really had them under my skin And throughout her tragedy, and her inner fight, flashbacks to her life before the accident, both with her family, and with the boy she loves, really cemented all the characters into my heart The scene with her grandfather in the hospital particularly got to me.As a character I really liked that Mia was different from the stereotypical YA heroine with a passion for music, for her family and a not always perfect relationship, it was easy to like her and to sympathise with her story.Emotional, compelling, touching, I enjoyed If I Stay so much that I immediately bought the sequel, Where She Went, on Kindle and read it all in the same sitting.

Hard to read in places, so much so that I literally went numb, because the alternative, imagining what Mia was going through, is unthinkable. The writing was simple, but effective, and overall, believable. If I was in Mia s position, i know very well what i would do I don t want to say though because I might spoil the plot somehow i dunno. But overall, I didn t LET this book hit me as hard as it could, because I didn t want it to Whether that s a bad thing, or a good thing, I don t know.It wasn t easy to read Even harder to read than some Steven King books But I finished it, fast Because I didn t want to be stuck in a bubble of depression. So if you re up for being depressed that s a strange thing to want Let me rephrase that better. If you are up for a book that will teach you to appreciate what you have, through 250 pages of heartbreak, then this is for you. That wasn t worded very well either It was a GOOD book, let me tell you that That s why I ve given it a brilliant rating It only loses a star because a I didn t find the ending to be uplifting enough And i wanted and uplifting ending.b I never thought Mia justified her decision on the last page very well. But the reasons it is good, is the same reason s it hurts Gayle Forman makes the characters seem real, and she sketches out Mia s life so well in the 250 pages. Not an easy book to read, but if you are interested, it s very well written, and holds a touching story Read it if you want If you don t, don t Either way, be prepared. For what you re getting. And for what you re missing. That is all

It starts with a day off of school where a light snow in the Portland area brings everything to a halt The snow melts by mid morning and Mia heads off for a day with her family in their car They argue about what to listen to on the radio, tease her mother about her cooking, and all is near bliss Until the accident Now Mia has to decide She is the one in control though she doesn t want to be She has to choose lifeor death. This slim volume contains such heartache, such wonder and such tenderness that it should take twice the amount of words it does Somehow in under 200 pages, Forman has created a character who becomes not only real, but open and vulnerable and achingly available to the reader Through flashbacks, we get to learn about her love of the cello, the gift for music, her early relationship with her boyfriend, and her amazing parents Things are beautiful but honest life with a boyfriend is not perfect and her parents are different from most This is real life with all of the troubles but all of the joy too Forman s writing is gripping, honest and at times so gentle that it s a caress Her writing is what makes this book work It never tumbles down the slope of melodrama, instead keeping true and unflinching.Make sure you have a box of Kleenex handy for this one It s nearly impossible to put down and equally difficult to get out of your head Readers of Lurlene McDaniel will love this, and find a book with writing to match the emotions.

I bought his book through my recommended reads on .It is a well researched and structured book, the book has a main theme of music running throughout, both rock and classical.I particularly liked the description of the characters, especially the immediate family and close friends, they were portrayed with such sensitivity and attention to detail, you did feel as though you knew them This attachment certainly meant the book tugged at my heartstrings all the .Although this book seems primarily aimed at young adults, I think its accessibile to all ages, that is, it is something we can all relate to love and death The book dives straight in with 17 year old Mia her family being involved in a terrible accident and continues to document the following 24 hours Narrated by Mia, you really know what is going on inside her head and experience closely the turmoil she experiences, following the accident She is watching herself her body and her family at her bedside at the hospital, wondering what she should do for the bestreturn to the world and carry on living or quietly slip away to be whith those she has already lost. The final 50 pages really brought tears to my eyes It makes you realise, that we never seem to contemplate what it is the injured unconscious one wants, we all focus so much on our own selfish want of them to stay, that we do not consider maybe they have had enough now and don t want to come back It certainly made me think.and cry.Its an emotionally deep and heartwarming tale of how much family can really mean and heartbreaking decisions.N.B bring tissues.
