I really enjoy Jenn Bennett s books They re super light and sweet reads to get you through reading slumps and help you escape reality for a little bit Unfortunately though, I felt like this book specifically dragged. There were certain things about this book that I found were just bizarre and unnecessary LikeBirdie being cooped up and protected her whole life and suddenly on her first night out she loses her virginity to a complete stranger I don t know, maybe I m the one who s weird for not realizing this stuff happensbut I couldn t get behind this plot point 100%.Then there s this strange mystery that dragged and turned into some sort of mob thing and it became so convoluted and I don t knowI wish it didn t take so much time out of Daniel and Birdie s story. Then there s Daniel, sweet, funny Daniel, who is such a great love interest and protagonist, and then Bennett throws a wrench in it and makes him so complicated with an illness and it just gets really depressing towards the end.It s still cute, and I liked the quirkiness of both characters, but I think the issue was that there was just too much happening all at the same time.Oh and the whole Aunt Mona thing and her drama Please That was soooo unnecessary I couldn t stand her, she was annoying.Alright, now I m done.

I love Jenn Bennett s stories They are always so good and rich and have the best characters All her characters have such personalities and back stories None of them are perfect and they are all so unique Serious Moonlight is just another great addition to her young adult contemporary romance books I absolutely adored Birdie and Daniel Birdie loves mysteries and when Daniel presents her one at her new job she can t resist The only problem Daniel and her already met and she left things pretty awkward between them But, like Daniel says, fate finds a way They take a leap of faith and pursue the mystery while they find themselves becoming friends and then falling in love Their romance is sweet and awkward and adorable But what I love about both of them most are their pasts and who they are Neither are perfect They have their secrets and fears and we get to see them lower their defenses and open up to one another as they try to move forward Really loved this book If you loved her other books, then this one will not disappoint Jenn Bennett s writing is fantastic and I always find myself picking the book up and not putting it back down until I m finished.I received an ARC for an honest review.

This was such a fun read and another great story from Jenn Bennett She has such a way of making her characters into real people and I absolutely adore the families included in each book as well I feel like each of her books contains a different family dynamic and it s so great to read I also want to take the time to appreciate the cover and how the characters are actually portrayed as they re described in the book Daniel even has a ponytail something I don t even think I noticed until I read the book and I always love to see the cover actually match the character descriptions.SERIOUS MOONLIGHT was just a really great book I really enjoyed getting to know Birdie and her love of mysteries as well as getting to know what it s like to live with narcolepsy That was another great addition to the story to bring narcolepsy into the minds of Jenn Bennett s readers which probably isn t something that a lot of people consider I really appreciated getting to know about it and I also liked how the characters handled what Birdie was going through Even if they weren t the right decisions, they all felt really realistic It s hard to address a medical issue sometimes and you don t want to admit something is wrong if you don t have to, and I m sure many of us have gone through that mindset of thinking in our own ways, so I could totally relate to that. The romance was also very cute and something you don t see a lot of in young adult I kind of liked that Birdie and Daniel started off with a physical relationship or I guess encounter, since they then had to decide if they wanted a relationship and that for once a YA book that started with sex wasn t about being pregnant I liked that she had a supportive maternal figure Mona, friend of the family who was like an aunt and helped raise her that she could talk to about it and she had some really positive support I also kind of liked the absence of a best friend in this book and that Mona was kind of like Birdie s best friend It made for a interesting relationship between the two of them and I like eliminating the possibility of that friend fight that almost always happens in YA novels because it almost always happens in real life It was just a great way to sort of break that mold that so many books repeat, just because it is so relatable, but Jenn Bennett brought a new relationship to the pages of this book and a different sort of friendship.Jenn Bennett is definitely an auto buy author for me and I really enjoyed SERIOUS MOONLIGHT I ve enjoyed every one of her books that I ve read so far and each one really has a unique story with a great variety of characters and situations.

Birdie whom I am convinced is named after a character in You ve Got Mail is an incredibly interesting character She works the night shift at a hotel, has a few sleeping problems, and meets a boy who is a dream boat I would love to go into her character, but no spoilers Daniel Amateur magician, works the night shift at a hotel, and may be the fictional love of my life His back story made my soul hurt and who he is as a character is just wonderful He s a cinnamon roll for sure and I love him for it.There s a lot to love about Jenn Bennett s writing Her characters are never cut and dry with the issues they are dealing with She s writes real life not fairytales with perfect people I will forever love that she s not scared to talk about sex in her books Why Because as a teen when I read YA it was always such a pranced around subject The stories she creates makes you feel like you re watching the most perfect rom com unfold but with a couple twist along the way The settings she creates are always dreamy I mean the Moonlight Diner I need that pie And Mona s entire vibe is just a freaking dream She is literally goals for me in every way There s so many other things in this book, big small, that I seriously loved and adored.I loved Serious Moonlight for a lot of reason It deals with grief, which I can relate to a lot It deals with pushing things away and not wanting to deal with your issues It s real and honest and raw in a lot of ways Jenn Bennett will forever be a automatic buy for me Because she s a killer writer and if you follow her in social media, you ll know she s a killer person too.Five stars, heck all the stars

Jenn Bennett does not disappoint her ability to write great characters with meaningful, oh so relatable issues that take actual time and hard work to resolve comes shining through in her latest YA novel Serious Moonlight side note David Bowie references are worked in throughout and each chapter starts with a quote from a TV or movie detective these are the details that make a book pure awesomeness The book is told from the perspective of Birdie Lindberg, a 17 year old homeschooled narcoleptic wanna be detective She is delightful She has some serious waters to navigate, and she s scared, unsure, has no idea who to go to for help, embarrassed by things and by her own existence Anyone who has ever experienced a moment of social anxiety or awkwardness or, y know, everyone, except maybe Helen Mirren will immediately relate to and want to help Birdie.Don t miss the mystery, the love story, the families learning to not keep secrets Fun read I say it again WHERE WERE ALL THESE AWESOME YA AUTHORS WHEN I WAS Y
