Very nice description about parsing etc. Compilers Principles, Techniques and Tools, known to professors, students, and developers worldwide as the Dragon Book, is available in a new edition Every chapter has been completely revised to reflect developments in software engineering, programming languages, and computer architecture that have occurred since , when the last edition published The authors, recognizing that few readers will ever go on to construct a compiler, retain their focus on the broader set of problems faced in software design and software developmentNew chapters include ChapterInstruction Level ParallelismChapterOptimizing for Parallelism and Locality This has to be THE book on compiler techniques, this edition a reprint of the second edition with a new index Complete in every way it is slightly above my level but I m committed to persevering and getting the most out of this text. This review refers NOT to the original 2006 edition but to the 2014 re print by Pearson India, via DKIndia ISBN 978 93 325 1866 7 The inside page of this book reads This edition is authorised for sale only in India, BanglAdesh, Bhutan, Pakistan, Nepal, Sri Lanka and the Maldives Circulation of this edition outside of these territories is UNAUTHORISED Therefore this edition should not be available to us in the UK.The back of this Indian edition is even ominous where it says For these special editions, the editorial team at Pearson has collaborated with educators across the world to address a wide range of subjects and requirements, equipping students with the best possible learning tools MH so far so good It continues. This international edition preserves the cutting edge approach and pedagogy of the original, BUT MAY ALSO FEATURE ALTERATIONS, CUSTOMIZATION AND ADAPTATIONS FROM THE UNITED STATES VERSION Caps MH.This is somewhat concerning, as there is no indication within the book what has been changed, altered or customised So what is the actual condition of the the book itself.Well the binding is OK, but looks a little flimsy, however inside the type quality is not very good, with frequent smudges and a very faint text The paper quality is not very good either and to be honest the book does not look like it will last very long, without falling apart.Unfortunately having never had an opportunity to read the original, I don t know how close this edition is Also some readers have reported on the reviews below, that some of the algorithms are wrong Again I don t know the validity of these statements But I will raise this with in the morning. So if you are going to buy this book from the sellers, then be aware that almost all of them are from India and therefore it is highly likely that you will receive an edition that is the same as my one.In fairness these may be perfectly good copies of the original, but we should be made aware before we purchase them that these are Indian editions and that the quality might not be up to what we are normally used to, and even importantly, there may be some additions, alterations or customisations to the test.LET THE BUYER BEWARE.KRMH This book is excellent, but the kindle version sucks Only occupy 80% of my IPAD, I have to zoom every time once I finished one page. Undoubtedly better than any compiler book I ve ever read. However the layout does not do it justice The book is clearly written TeX but the table of contents and the index have been replaced with some other ugly layout Additionally, the TeX parts have huge margins but the index does not It s a shame because it s such a great book. And why is there no dragon on the cover Book might be good This review is for the physical product received. Some pages were not printed Book was stolen from library of an engineering college There are stamps all over Overall condition is also not good It was probably kept in a water tank for a day and then taken out. Poor paper quality Older edition than mentioned on cover Missing chapter at end.Left pages are slighly 4 6 degrees slanted than right pages.faded or bad printed papers that I did not notice until started to read till middle of book. The form factor weight It s a very large book 28cm x 21,5cm 11 x 8.5 inches which at about 1k pages makes it somewhat hard to handle.Which I wouldn t hold against it However the margins make up 60% of the page area.So about half the weight of the book is thanks to unnecessary large margins The Table of contents is useless The table of content only contains the 11 chapter titles. So even if you already know what you are looking for, and what chapter it is in, you might still have to browse through 130 pages to find the actual content The index seems to be automatically generated and as such is as bad as one would expect. For example it contains over 100 page references to WITH.Other generic terms such as code, variable, ANY and ALL are equally bad.And while the index comes in at 12 pages a lot of meaningful compiler terminology like lattice, common subexpression or code motion is absent.Over all this makes looking up information far harder than it should be in a technical book like this.
